Anthony Kettle - Head Trainer at Panther |
|
| Fighting Nickname: | Anthony |
| Sparring style: | It depends on my opponent, or student, I will brawl a technician, but use strategy against a brawler, you have to adapt, because there will always be someone better than you. |
| Favorite technique: | Low kick, and any kind of choke |
| Likes MA/K1 because: | When I was younger I used to enjoy the competitive side of Martial arts, but now I love teaching, I enjoy sharing and gaining knowledge with my fellow trainers and students. There is nothing more satisfying as watching a student grow and develop. I enjoy watching the life changes a student goes through as they embrace the martial arts way of life. I also enjoy learning, and at the moment I am on a quest to learn Jiujutsu. |
| MA Experience: | I started Kickboxing when I was 5 yrs old, my first instructor was Chris Koetzee, at the Leibrandt van Niekerk hall in Table View. I started competing in Kickboxing at the age of 6yrs old. At the age 11, I started Kyokushin Karate, my main instructor was Shihan Dave Bristo who had a passion for what he did. Dave soon became my mentor and a lot of my teaching style comes from Shihan Dave Bristo. I also trained Kyokushin Karate with Shihan Kenny Uytenbogaardt, Shihan Len Barnes, Shihan Trevor Tockar. On completion of my military training, I went to train in England (With Marius Allers), France and Holland training with various styles. On returning to South Africa, I resumed my Kyokushin training with Kenny Uytenbogaardt and Shihan Trevor Tockar. I competed in all and any full contact tournaments I could enter and remained unbeaten for several years. I then took a 3 year break from training, I am not sure if I got bored, or whether I over trained. The three year break brought on a new passion for training. I then trained Thai Boxing with Patrick Jassman in Parklands. I had found my new passion- Thai Boxing. During my standup career, I trained grappling with Graham Turner, and frequented any grappling seminars I could go to. I currently train grappling daily with Gary King; James Smart; Caleb Ridley; Hanno Vermeulin; Ricco Hutting and whoever is willing to teach me. I currently teach Thai Boxing (Muay Thai), K-1 and Boxing, at Panther Parklands and have produced 18 Western Province Champions, 9 South African Champions, and 4 Protea’s, who have competed in Serbia, Greece, Italy, Hong Kong and Thailand. Panther has become a house hold name and our fighters are respected and feared. I am evolving daily and believe in exposing my students to as much knowledge as possible. |
