Panther Fights for good Cause

Kerry Gray and Dyllan Dutton took part in a outdoor tournament on Saturday 29th November, to raise money for the Grassy Park Trauma and Counselling Unit, to help victims of abuse and violence.
The tournament held in China Town by the Ottery Hypermarket.
Kerry and Dyllan both brought home gold. Kerry fought a K-1 Kickboxing fight and Dylan fought a boxing fight.

The final Challenge Muay Thai

Two local gyms from West Beach (Bulldog Gym) and Parklands (Panther Thaiboxing Academy), represented The Western Cape in a Muay Thai event hosted in Centurion Pretoria on 29th Nov. The Capetonians, consisting of a team of 6 fighter, brought home 5 gold medals and one silver medal. Well done to our local fighters, who held our communities name high.

Panther Hosts Final for 2008

Panther Thai Boxing Academy hosted their final K-1 Full Contact tournament for 2008 on the 1st November. True to form the gym was packed to capacity, the bill boasted 16 amateur fights and 2 SuperAm fights. Fighters from Panther did exceptionally well coming away with 7 Gold and 3 Silver Medals. For the first time we had 3 father son combo´s fighting, Stuart and Anthony Mailer, Jina and Serdi Ifuki, Jason Mynhardt and Kyle van der Schyff, as well as siblings Keith and Gabby Drewery; proving once again this is a family sport. We would like to thank all those who come and support the fighters and wish you a safe and peaceful festive season, we hope to see you all in the new year on the 14th February for our next tournament.

South African K-1,
Kickboxing Champs

On the 3rd October 2008, a WP team consisted of 11 fighters, 9 from Panther Thai Boxing Academy in Parklands, entered the South African K-1, Kickboxing Champs in Pretoria. Panther brought home 6 Gold´s, 3 Silver and 1 bronze.
Panther will be hosting a development tournament 1st November.

Gold at WAKO K-1 Junior World Champs

Anthony Kettle (coach), Irshaad Sayed (assistant coach) Dyllan Dutton (Fighter) and Nabeehah Sayed (Fighter) of Western Province, represented a Springbok team consisting of 110 members at the WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations) World Championships in Naples, Italy on 23, 24, 26, 27 September 2008. This tournament is considered to be the most prestigious K-1 (kickboxing) competition in the world, with over 50 countries and 4500 fighters competing.
Dyllan and Nabeehah have been training between 4 to 6 hours and running between 5 and 10 km a day for the past three months in preparation for this tournament. Dyllan lost on points to a much more experienced fighter from Hungry, in the quarter finals, and is now ranked 6th in the world in his weight division. Nabeehah Sayed was the only South African to achieve a Gold medal and is now the reigning World Champion in her weight category (under 50KG, K-1, Full Contact). The team overall received 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 11 Bronze medals.

Great Day for Panther


Saturday 6 September was a great day for Panther Thai Boxing Academy, who attended a tournament hosted by Cape Town Military Martial Arts Club at Wynberg Military Base and came away with 6 golds and 2 silver medals.
10 year old Lee Drewery Jnr fought his 1st K-1 fight and got a nasty kick to the tummy and the Ref called the fight. Gabby "the Butterfly" Drewery(12 yrs) KO'd her opponent in the 2nd round. Big brother Keith Drewery (14 yrs) fought his toughest opponent yet and did an awesome job going all 3 rounds and winning on points. Kyle vd Skyff (10 yrs) did a great job going 3 rounds winning on points. Irshaad Sayed who fought the only SuperAm (pro-am) fight of the day, faced a very tough opponent but KO'd him in the 2nd round. Nabeeha Sayed (16yrs) KO'd her opponent in the 1st round! Andrew Mailer (16 yrs) went all 3 rounds and won on points! Dean Lotz finally got his 1st KO in 15 seconds - go Hot Stuff!!!!! Jason Mynhardt took on a serious tough opponent and the Ref stopped the fight at the end of the 2nd round - you'll get him next time J!!! And last but not least Alain de la Querra won by KO in the second round.
Unfortunately Anthony Mailer didn't get a fight! Well done to all our fighters it was an awesome day with great sportsmanship amongst the fighters from all the clubs.

South Africa vs Canada

Panther Thai Boxing Academy's Kerry Gray and Nabeehah Sayed were chosen to represent South Africa in a international Kickboxing event held in Johannesburg on the 23rd August 2008. They fought against a very strong and experienced Canadian Team. Kerry beat her opponent on points and Nabeeha, lost by TKO in the 2nd round. Irshaad Sayed fought against a fighter from Johannesburg and won by KO 3rd round. This was Kerry's third international fight. Nabeehah Sayed and Dyllan Dutton will both be representing South Africa in Italy from 19-28 September at the amateur K-1 World Champs. Boxing in Khayelitsha

Panther Thai Boxing Academy was invited to an amateur boxing tournament in Site C Khayelitsha on Saturday 16 August. Boxing trainer of the year Zola Koti organised the boxing tournament and sat as chief judge. This is the first time Panthers Junior fighters have had the opportunity to test their boxing skills which they did very successfully. Panthers trainers Anthony Kettle & Rob Fenyes were extremely proud of the sportsmanship and camaraderie between all the kids. Panther certainly hope this will not be the last tournament of this kind.

Panther Packs a Punch

Panther Thai Boxing Academy hosted their 4th Pro-Am tournament for the year with great success on 2 August 2008. Fighters came from all over South Africa to compete, in the celebrated event. The crowds were thoroughly entertained through out the night with a mix of SuperAm and Amateur fights, with fighters ranging from 26kg to 97kg, male and female. Dyllan Dutton and Nabeehah Sayed will both be representing South Africa at the WAKO Junior World Champs in Italy at the end of September; both won their fights with a KO. Thank you to all our supporters, who we hope will join us again for the final tournament of the year on the 1st of November.

Panther Thaiboxing Academy hosted their third K-1, Super Am event for the year on 31 May 2008, in Parklands, Cape Town. There were clubs from throughout South Africa. The spectators eagerly waiting to see some of South Africas best fighters slug it out for gold. The tournament boasted 5 Super Am fights with 3 Title Fights and 11 Armature bouts. The standard of all fighters exceeded the crowds expectations and the show was enjoyed by all. Panther is hosting their next Pro-Am event on 2 August 2008 in Cape Town, all styles and clubs are welcome.

Panther brings home Title

On the 19th April 2008, Panther Thai Boxing Academy competed in a Super-Am event in JHB
Kerry Gray won the Super-Am SA Title Belt in a weight category above her own, with a KO in 45 seconds. Anthony Mailer (14 yrs old - Chelmsford School) received 2 silver medals.
Dean Lotz (15 yrs old - Tableview High) won gold.

Boxing Glory

Leo Mrumba from Danoon, represented Table View Panther Boxing Academy at a tournament hosted by the SADF on Saturday 12th April 08. Leo achieved first place in his weight division.

Panther is looking to sponsor boxers (Amateur and Pro), like Leo from a disadvantaged background, living in Danoon and Site 5, as part of their community development program.

Development Tournament 5 April 2008

Panther Thaiboxing Academy hosted the annual Young Blood tournament on Saturday 5 April 08. The purpose of the tournament is to get, less experience fighters some ring experience. The tournament was a great success.

Dyllan "Too Sweet" Dutton

Dyllan Dutton (Table View High School) of Panther Thaiboxing Academy entered the amateur seniors division of the Boland K-1 Championships (Thai Boxing) on Saturday 02 February 2008. Dyllan won his first fight by KO in the first round and second fight by KO in the second round, securing him a gold medal. Dyllan will be competing in his first SuperAm fight, on 5 April 2008 at Panther Thaiboxing Academy.

Opening Night a Great Success

Panther Thai Boxing Academy hosted the first ever Super-Am K-1 event, in Cape Town on the 9th February, at its new premises in Parklands. The tournament was a great success. Panther Thai Boxing Academy students received 7 Gold and 1 Silver Medal. The tournament was held to celebrate the opening of the new venue. Internationally recognized celebraties from the "Fight World" attended as guests and supporters of Panther Thai Boxing Academy. Mzonke Fana better known as "The Rose of Khayelitsha" nominated as fighter of the year; Irshaad Sayers, Light Weight Muay Thai Champion, Zola Koti who has been nominated as trainer of the year and Mike Bernardo, K-1 Legend, were amongst our guests. Panther Thai Boxing Academy boasts the only Boxing Ring in the area. Panther Thai Boxing Academy specializes in Thai Boxing, K-1 and Boxing, for all ages and all levels of experience and fitness. Panther Thai Boxing Academy caters for people who just want to get fit as well as those that want to compete either professionally or as an amateur.
