Panther Power

Panther Thai boxing Academy entered the Fight Girls tournament, hosted on Saturday, 8 December 2007 at Ratunga Junction. Ronelle Williams (Current South African Champion) from Durbanville Panther, KO'd her opponent in the second round. She overpowered her opponent with a flurry of knees and body blows. Dyllan Dutton (Current SA Champion) from Tableview Panther had a very technical fight grabbing a convincing gold. Dyllan was selected to be the only male fight on the bill. The purpose of the tournament was to promote women in contact sports.

Panther goes boxing

Panther Thai Boxing Academy was invited to attend the Military Boxing Gala, held at Wynber Military Base on 16 November 2007. This was the first time that Panther entered Thai Boxing (Muay Thai) students into a boxing competition. Panther would like to congratulate Leo Luyolo (Fly Weight) who achieved a silver medal, loosing to a more experienced Boxer, by TKO in the third round and Dennis Ebbes (Super Heavy Weight) who won by a spectacular third round TKO.

2007 SA K-1 Championships, Durban

The Panther Thai Boxing Academy of Table View and Durbanville have reason to be proud of their fighters, who made the Western Province team, and attended the SA Thai Boxing and Kickboxing Championships in Durban, during the first weekend of September. The competition was seriously tough, but the WP team did fantastically well, with Panther Thai Boxing Academy bringing home four gold, two silver and four bronze medals. All these fighters will be considered for selection for the SA team which will compete overseas in the 2008 World Championships. Fight Girls Tournament

Panther Thai Boxing Academy entered 4 girls into the Fight Girls Tournament held in Cape Town on the Saturday 4 August to celebrate women in Thai Boxing in conjunction with Womans Day. It was Shannon Duttons (12) and Gabby Drewerys (11) (both from Table View Panther Thai Boxing Academy) first tournament. They faced opponents who were more experienced and a little bigger themselves, but they put up a brave fight never the less, and received silver medals. Ronelle Williams (from Durbanville Panther Thai Boxing Academy) fought her toughest opponent yet, who is current SA Champ in her weight division, and walked away with gold. Kerry Gray (Table View Panther Thai Boxing Academy) who is current SA Champ in her weight division fought an extremely tough opponent, but as usual Kerry toughed it out and won on points. Kerry is preparing for the world Thai Boxing Champs in Sebia in September Grant Patterson (from Durbanville Panther Thai Boxing Academy) was invited to partake in the only male fight. This was only Grants fight second fight, which he won by KO in the 1st round. Grant Patterson is certainly a name to be watched. The tournament was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to our ladies for defeating very tough opponents, from through South Africa. Push-ups for Worlds Champs

Panther Thai Boxing Academy held a push-ups competition on Thursday 19 July 2007 to raise funds for Kerry Grays trip to Serbia to participate in the WACO World Champs. Marcel Keitzinger won the competition with an amazing 170 pushups, without a break. He currently holds the Panther record.


Western Province K-R Championships

Panther Thai Boxing Academy hosted the Western Province K-R (Amateur K-1) Full Contact Championships. The tournament proved to be a great success, boasting entries from Karate, Muay Thai and Kickboxing clubs, from throughout the Western Cape. Panther Thai Boxing academy, a local club, took home 7 golds and 4 silvers. Kyle Fulton, and Dyllan Dutton, both juniors entered the senior mens division and achieved silver medals. The next tournament these fighters will be attending will be the South African Kickboxing Championships being held in KZN at the beginning of September. Panther Brings Home Gold

Panther Thai Boxing Academy entered two students into a Development Muay Thai Tournament, held in Lansdowne, on 5 May 2007 Andrew Mailer and Ronell Williams. Both Students achieved Gold Medals. Muaythai fighters are highly skilled in 8 limbs weaponry: Feet, Knees, Elbows, and Fists, the stand-up neck Wrestling (clinching), making Muaythai matches very intense, which is why Muaythai, is known as the toughest ring sport.


Kerry Wins Muay Thai Title in Thailand

Kerry Gray, of Panther Thai Boxing Academy has spent the last 3 weeks training, at Sinbi Muay Thai Camp (Owned by K1 Champion, Sing), Thailand, in preparation for a Title Fight being held in Thailand, Bangla Boxing Stadium, Patpong, Tuesday 8 May 2007.The fight went the full 5 rounds and Kerry won on a points decision. Kerry will be competing for a World Armature Title (K-R rules, which is the amateur version of K-1) in Serbia, September 2007. Kerry currently holds titles in K-R, Kick Boxing, Oriental Boxing, Thai Boxing and Muay Thai.

24 March Thai Boxing Tournament-Boland

Panther Thai Boxing Academy attended the Boland Amateur Thai Boxing Championships, hosted at the MTN Hall, Paarl Cricket Grounds, Paarl. The tournament was open to all clubs situated in Western Province and Boland vicinities. Panther Thai Boxing Academy entered 6 students and brought home 2 gold medals and 1 silver and 2 bronze medal. 10 March Thai Boxing Tournament

Panther Thai Boxing Academy hosted a Full Contact Thai Boxing Tournament at the Leibrandt Van Niekerk Hall on 10 March 2007. The tournament was open to all clubs nationally and was a great success. Ultimate Strike Challenge

From left, Steven (Champions World), Russel De ville (Panther), Quinton (Champions World, Trainer) and Erin (Digital Boxing). Russel and Erin have been chosen to represent the Western Cape in the Ultimate Strike Challenge, on 3 March, Carnival City, Johannesburg. The Ultimate Strike Challenge is a Pro, 8 man elimination, challenge, and poses to be one of the toughest Pro tournaments in South Africa.
