Western Province Kickboxing results 28 May 2011
Thanks to all who came through to support our fighters this past weekend at the Western Province Kickboxing Championships held at the Wynberg Military base. We had a number of fighters from Panther that entered, some were unfortunately not able to get opponents but luckily it means that they automatically qualify for entry into the upcoming SA’s which is being held in Langebaan on the 25th to 26th of June 2011. The tournament saw Panther fighters Kyle Van Der Schyff, Jamie Williamson, Qaasim Coetzee and Alain Illunga squaring off against their opponents. First up was Kyle who took the victory and next up we had Jamie and Qaasim both from Panther battling against each other. Congratulations to both of them for putting on a good show, both earning some very impressive points but in the end it was Jamie who took the win. Alain Illunga had 2 very exciting fights in which his opponents were unable to stop the precision striking of Illunga, adding yet another 2 names to his list of defeated opponents. We hope to see you all at the SA’s showing your support for the fighters who will be competing.
Dragon Power 14 May 2011
Congratulations to Alain Illunga and Sibusiso Mdoko who competed at the Western Province Muaythai Champs hosted by Dragon power on the 14th May 2011. Alain won within seconds of the first round by a devastating knee to his opponent leaving him grounded and unable to continue.Sibusiso Mdoko went all 4 rounds landing some very impressive shots and fought like a lion and showed what he's worth, - he didn't give up. He's a true warrior. Unfortunately the decision was given to his opponent, who displayed a better show of Muay Thai, scoring more points.
PANTHER FIGHT NIGHT 30 APRIL
Action satisfaction is always guaranteed at Panther tournaments, leaving the crowd cheering for more. With 12 explosive fights, 5 K-1 bouts, 6 MMA and 1 boxing match, the crowd was surely to be entertained.MMA
Once again Alain Illunga won his fight after the 1st round with his opponent unable to continue into the 2nd round, seems Alains’ punching power is one that cannot be matched. Another spectacular fight of the night was Sibusiso Mdoko, keeping most of his MMA fight as stand up where he dominated his opponent unfortunately the judge’s decision gave the victory to his opponent.
Fight of the night would have to go to Flippie from Two Brothers Combat ,who faced off against Nicholas Radley from Bulldogs Gym, who is in his last appearance at Panther won with a round house kick to his opponents head resulting in a very impressive 7 second knockout . This battle was sure to be brutal and that it most certainly was, both these warriors came in with some heavy punches and take downs with Nicholas trying to get his win with that infamous kick of his. His opponent Flippie impressed the crowd and the judges with his immediate recovery from this head kick and started to ground and pound Nicholas. The fight ended with Flippie winning by TKO.
These talented young men are definitely Cape town’s up and coming MMA fighters sure to hit EFC AFRICA soon.
K-1
First up was the juniors Kyle “TNT” Van der Schyff of Panther vs Jean Luc Ardendorff of Scorpions, both these youngsters fought with their hearts and in the end the decision was given to Kyle Van der Schyff proving that dynamite does really come in small packages.
A very big thank you to Austin Kettle (Panther) who stepped into the cage at the last minute and went the distance against Luan Venter (Scorpions) who won by decision.
2 Very impressive TKO’s coming from Panthers very own Justin Torode vs Johnny Dickens (Tricore) as well as Keith Drewery (Panther) vs Brandan de Beer (Takedown).
Congratulations to all the fighters that competed on the night making for a very eventful tournament.
Thanks to the team of officials as well as Devon Currer who played the role of MC.
